On September 15th 2008 the IGCEMA has set-up a meeting with industry leaders to discuss the declining number of Equipment Technicians entering our industry. This declining number poses problems in the future of managing golf courses and equipment properly which leads to increasing costs of maintenance and less than perfect conditions. While most high end courses may not see the impact many low to medium end courses will. The purpose of this meeting is to come up with an action plan on increasing the appeal to choose equipment management as a profession. With the lack of students in college programs many of the schools are forced to close them because of the decrease in demand for the position.
The meeting will be held at the Lake City Community College Campus where industry leaders, equipment managers, superintendents, associations, media, colleges and professors will discuss the challenges this issue has on golf in the future. We look forward to reporting back with everyone how the industry plans to move forward in the years to come.
